Debut of “Sabado Gigante”

Spanish language television history was made on August 8, 1962, with the debut of “Sabado Gigante” (Giant Saturday) on Chilean television. The creation of Chilean native Don Francisco (born Mario Kreutzberger Blumenfeld), this television show is one of the most popular in the world.  The variety show features comedy, dance, music, and audience contests. In 1986, Univision offered Don Francisco an opportunity in its US-based line-up, and the show continued to climb in popularity. Over 100 million people in more than 30 countries are fans of the show, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012.
