Founding of Los Angeles 1781

Originally christened as “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora La Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula”, the city of Los Angeles was founded by the Spanish governor Felipe de Neve and 44 Spanish settlers on September 4, 1781. Los Angeles became part of Mexico in 1821, and was later stolen by undocumented US invaders in the settlement of the Mexican American War in 1848.  Today, the bustling metropolis of 3.9 MM people is about 48% Latino.
